Principal’s Message
Greetings Narbonne family! My name is Dr. Heather Karuza, and I am honored to lead this school as your principal. This is my 21st year with LAUSD, having experience and background as a math teacher, math coach, assistant principal in both middle and high school, and middle school principal. I am passionate about my work and will do whatever it takes to make sure our students and staff are supported and successful.
First, I want to greet the students. You are the reason why we are all here and your success and wellbeing is our most important focus. I hope that you will share both your accomplishments and your concerns with me so that I can get to know you and support you as best I can.
To the parents of our scholars, I want to extend my greetings to you as well. Your partnership with us will be of tremendous importance as we support your children to reach their full potential. My door is always open and I encourage you to call, visit, and keep in touch as often as possible. We have a beautiful community, and I hope to work with businesses, families, and other community entities to enhance our relationships and work toward a common goal of educating our young people. I hope you all will follow us on social media, read our weekly updates, and check our website often for the most up-to-date information.
Our faculty and staff are an outstanding group of dedicated professionals. The most important learning happens in the classroom, and I believe instructional time is sacred. I cannot wait to get to work with each of you and support your efforts to grow in your profession and teach the young minds of students. To our dedicated support staff members and classified personnel, you play a vital role in the operation of our school, and without you, we could not flourish!
My vision for this school is for each and every student to be kind, critical thinkers, who problem-solve and collaborate effectively to reach their goals. I have high expectations for students and staff, and we will work together to hold ourselves accountable to a high standard of excellence. We will make decisions based on the needs of our students and what is in their best interest. No matter a student’s needs, we will use our expertise and training to provide the necessary support systems and strategies to ensure his/her success both academically and socially. We will have a caring and nurturing environment that starts with a positive school culture. Our School-wide Positive Behavior Support plan will outline the ways in which we will reward students for making good choices while also teaching them how to be responsible citizens of our community.
I am eager to embark on this adventure together. If we all work together as a team, I know we can achieve great things. My door is always open, so please feel free to approach me with all of your ideas!
